Conference on health reform protest barred from hospital

State Health Centre director István Szilvásy has forbidden the use of MÁV Hospital as the site of a conference on organising social resistance to health insurance reform. The hospital issued a permit on December 27 for the NGO Hungarian Social Forum – Social Round Table to stage the conference in its function room on Saturday.

Brig. Gen. Andor Grósz, acting on behalf of Szilvásy, argued that the State Health centre which oversees the MÁV Hospital may not support any political conference.

The conference will instead be held at the Kossuth Klub in District VIII. The Liga union federation, the Workers’ Councils, the National Society of Large Families, the Chamber of Hungarian Physicians, the Federation of Hungarian Physicians and the Civil Lawyers Commission will all send representatives.
