Budapest Mayor Gábor Demszky was pictured breaching parking and traffic rules by a sharp-eyed resident during the weekend and is liable to pay a fine of up to Ft 30,000 (€120). The velvet.hu reader took a series of photographs of the mayor’s car driving illegally, parked in a none-parking area and reversing the wrong way down Holló utca, a one-way street. The mayor had made a brief visit to a nearby construction site. In addition to the under-cover photographer, the cameras operating on the corner also captured the moment. Police will issue a fine expected to be around Ft 30,000 (€120) to Demszky, which he told Inforadio.hu he would pay without protest. “It was a mistake,” he admitted.
