A date for a referendum on the government's reforms may be decided as early as next month if the Constitution Court (AB) can investigate related complaints by the beginning of February, writes Magyar Nemzet. On Tuesday, the AB said that it wanted to make a decision on the complaints "as soon as possible."
András Sereg, press chief of the committee, said seven complaints had been submitted questioning whether the Parliament's December 17 decision on the referendum about doctor's visit fees, hospital day fees and tuition fees was constitutional.
Main opposition party Fidesz earlier said that it was waiting for a decision from the AB, and believed it was the last chance for the government to attempt to hinder the referendum. Once the AB makes a decision, State President László Sólyom can set a date for the referendum within 15 days. The date of the referendum has to be within 90 days of the decision.
