Fidesz and Socialist politicians were completely at odds over what is at stake in the upcoming referendum on banning tuition, visiting and daily hospital fees when they engaged in a debate on MTV's "Nap-kelte" talk show Thursday morning.
Fidesz referendum campaign political leader István Tarlós told the talk show that Fidesz party chairman Viktor Orbán's remark that the referendum is equivalent to an early election should not be "fatally misunderstood." Tarlós said that Orbán was actually talking about "what decently and conscientious democratic governments would do."
Socialist Party campaign political co-ordinator Ferenc Juhász meanwhile stressed that "the referendum is not about the future of the government, but about health care and higher educational reforms."
