Following in the wake of Kosovo’s declaration of independence, Gheorghe Funar of the Greater Romania Party has announced that on March 15, the Hungarian minority living in eastern Transylvania, known as the Székelyföld or “Székely Land” will announce their own republic, writes index.hu. The former mayor of Cluj-Napoca, (Kolozsvár in Hungarian), known for being a far-right nationalist, warned that a Hungarian republic would come into existence in the middle of Romania.
Béla Markó, chairman of the Romanian Hungarian Democratic Alliance (RMDSZ), called Funar’s statements a bunch of nonsense, adding that Funar was trying to equate autonomy with independence. Markó continued that while the Hungarian minority in Transylvania was hoping to achieve autonomy in the Székely areas, they were not pressing for independence.

Isn’t there a Hungarian “majority” in Transylvania?
No, there is not a Hungarian majority in Transylvania and nor has there been for over a century (possibly much longer).
There is a Hungarian majority in three counties presently. Go back in time enough, and you’ll have a Hungarian majority when looking at Transylvania as a whole, although not a huge majority, mind you.
Back to the basic question – “How do you prove you are Hungarian”?
These figures are from the Romanian census, so it is up to any one to go to the nearest office in Romania and register yourself as “Hungarian” or “Serb” or “Bulgar” or “whatever”.
It was an upswing in these registrations when Hungary pushed for the “Dual Citizenship”-thing and every “Hungarian” would receive money and being fast-tracked into Hungary.
I think it was Funar who claimed that most of the new “Hungarians” were Roma
