Postal worker destroys 1400 referendum notices

A postal worker in Kecskemét has been sacked after admitting to burning 1400 referendum notices, conservative daily Magyar Nemzet reports. According to the piece, the postal worker, who had only been working for the postal service for month, said his actions were not political but that he simply was frightened at the prospect of having to distribute them.

This news comes on the heels of a report from Debrecen that a postal worker there was fired after burying 732 referendum notices after realizing he would not be able to distribute them in time. The postal service denied that politics played a role in this incident as well.

And I believe them too. In Hungary, never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by incompetence …. which explains just about everything in this country.

Gyurcsany said in short, “don’t vote to show your support of the gov’t”. By that argument, wouldn’t these 2 incidents count as politically motivated?
