Orbán canvasses disabled and blind for referendum votes

“A successful nation cannot be built solely on rich and healthy people, it must not forget about those who are neither,” Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán said in a statement to the media after meeting physically handicapped people in Szekszárd, south Hungary, on Wednesday.

Orbán said the essence of democracy is that everyone is indispensable. He encouraged the audience to turn out on Sunday and prove that the nation can count on them.

Letters written in Braille encouraging all to turn out on Sunday have been sent to 100,000 blind and sight-impaired people.

Orbán told MTV on Wednesday night that if the opposition’s upcoming referendum drive is successful, the three fees may have to be abolished in the near future, and not January 1, 2009.
