Investigation into Socialist corruption case closed

The investigation into the spiraling fraud scandal centered on former Socialist MP János Zuschlag closed on Friday with testimony from a sixteenth suspect in the case, Bács-Kiskun county deputy attorney general Ferenc Szabó said.

According to a report by hirszerzo.hu, based on information from HavariaPress, the newest suspect is a Budapest resident with the initials L. P.

Of the 16 suspects questioned in the case, three are currently in detention. Szábo refused to provide further details on the case, saying that while the investigation has been completed, its documentation may take extra time.

Zuschlag was arrested in September 2007 on suspicion of embezzling Ft 75 million (€300,000) in public funds. After initially refusing to speak to the authorities, a month ago he made a confession implicating several co-conspirators.

According to conservative daily Magyar Nemzet, Zuschlag also confess that some of the embezzled funds, secured from state bodies for non-existent companies, had ended up being used by the Fiatal Baloldal (Young Left Wing), a Socialist organization he formerly led.
