Several Socialist politicians on Monday demanded the resignation of coalition state secretary Free Democrat Gábor Horn after he was filmed making a crude remark about Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and the outcome of Sunday’s referendum.
A HírTV camera caught Horn and party leader János Kóka at the Free Democrat headquarters as they watched Gyurcsány’s speech on TV Sunday evening. As Gyurcsány observed that voters had said they did not want to pay the Ft 300 medical fee, Horn joked to Kóka: “No, Feri, they didn’t say that. They told you to f**k off. Let’s admit it!”
Horn, who acts as the liaison between the two coalition parties, said Monday that he was not appointed by the Socialists, and does not plan to resign. He issued a statement apologising to those whom he had offended. One always speaks more freely on election nights, he added, especially if one thinks one is not talking to a camera.
Gyurcsány and Horn spoke in the Parliament building, apparently not in a very friendly manner, according to Népszabadság. The newspaper says the matter will end there.
