District V mayor to increase punishments for protest-related vandalism

District V mayor Antal Rogán (Fidesz) would like to see punishments raised for protesters who damage property, Hirszerszo.hu reported based off a piece in Népszabadság.

The punishment for destruction of property at the scene of a protest could be raised to up to three years imprisonment, with the sentence being more severe if said destruction amounts to more than Ft 50 million in damages, in which case the punishment could be five to ten years.

The law would also be extended to those who disturb the gatherings of other groups. Since there has been a stalemate on the passage of this law, Rogán is hoping to jump-start things within parliament.

District V, in which the Parliament building is located, has been the scene of many of the protests which occurred over the previous year and a half.

Think about the outcry if it would not have been a Fidesz-guy saying this.
No wonder that the right-wing think-tanks now are contemplating ideas how to limit peoples abilities to demand referendums also. They definitively do not want the same dis-order when they have gained power.
Que is if Fidesz will get MSZP with them before the elections for the 2/3 majority needed or Fidesz believe they will get their own big majority after the elections, so they can change the laws how they want.
