Socialists MPs are demanding that Free Democrat Chairman János Kóka do something about his fellow party member and State Secretary Gábor Horn, who was recorded on camera saying that the people told Prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány to “f**k off” through the referendum
“He should resign or his party should make him resign,” MSZP MP József Karsai told tabloid Blikk, adding that he rarely has such a strong opinion, especially about his partners. “I can’t even look at Horn after this and many of my fellow MPs feel the same way.”
Károly Tóth said the question was whether Horn could operate in political matters without temper, while another influential Socialist MP said the Prime Minister couldn’t risk losing his coalition partner by removing Horn, who is a strong member of the SZDSZ.
Kóka told the paper that his trust in Horn had not changed, and since he had apologized for his remark, the party considers the case closed.
For his part, Horn told InfoRádió that he was sorry about the style of his comments but not about their content. He also stressed that he holds nothing against Hír TV, which recorded his comments not meant for the public.
“Ferenc Gyurcsány was saying that [the result of the referendum] was about the 300 forints, but I thought and still think that the referendum was not about that. The fact that the yes votes were in such a large majority was about that, but the very high turnout wasn’t. We have to know that that was a criticism expressed against us, a protest vote.”
