Fidesz caucus leader Tibor Navracsics claimed on right-wing blog jobbklikk.hu that Ferenc Gyurcsány called Fidesz a far-right party, disparaged right-wing journalist István Lovas and “did not behave like a host” in 2003, when Gyurcsány invited him to a dinner at the Apró villa to improve dialog between Fidesz and the Socialists.
Navracsics was responding to an article by Gyurcsány’s wife Klára Dobrev on index.hu, in which she said Navracsics had been to their home, partly due to the fact that they teach at the same university and share an excellent rapport.
However Navracsics claimed that the meeting degenerated into a quarrel and the visit had nothing to do with their shared university posts. Navracsics said he had been invited in his role as chief of staff to Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán by Gyurcsány, who was senior adviser to then prime minister Péter Medgyessy.
Navracsics opined that Gyurcsány had increasingly lost his temper and “the dialogue turned into a monologue with an offensive tone, something which has become familiar to everyone in Parliament,” while the atmosphere became “uncomfortable.”
Navracsics related that at one point he stressed that he was a guest and that Gyurcsány should behave like a host. Navracsics admitted that Dobrev tried to save the heated conversation, but the evening nevertheless ended rather early.
