A recent AP piece over at portfolio.com stated how international democracy observers criticized Hungary's political parties for skirting campaign finance rules in the last general election, as they spent about ten times what they really should have, and that all of the parties were guilty of overspending. While going a ways toward explaining the Fidesz debt, what nonetheless caught our attention was a choice quote from the most powerful man in the country. Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány was quoted by the article as saying "nobody is in a position to check who paid for what." Well, that's good to know if one of us ever decides to run for office.
