Speaking at a nationalist rally on the 160th anniversary of a Slovak petition to the Hungarians, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (right) spoke of national pride and expressed his disappointment that Slovak youths wear clothes with American and not Slovakian slogans, writes fn.hu. The kicker, however, was when he warned that a return of Viktor Orbán to the post of prime minister with a Fidesz victory in the next elections would result in nationalistic and fringe rhetoric coming from Hungary, and Slovakia should be prepared for this. We’d say this is a bit of a case of the pot calling the kettle black, but it’s a bit more, actually.
Not only has Fico’s alliance with the far-right Hungary-erasing Slovak National Party earned his party Smer the distinction of being shut out of the Party of European Socialists for nearly two years, (only gaining readmission recently), but unlike Orbán, who has been guilty of refraining from denouncing comments expressed by the far-right, Fico actually joined forces with them. On the other hand, it must be a good day for Orbán when even as an opposition figure he can strike terror into the hearts of the fringe abroad.
Now, note how his stocky figure resembles to a bagoly’s!
