Cabinet decides on handouts for doctors

The cabinet decided that GPs will from June receive Ft 50 for checking the legal insurance status of patients as well as higher fixed fees for their medical practise, when it approved a decree yesterday.

Health Minister Tamás Székely told reporters after the cabinet meeting that Ft 10 billion is available in the Health Insurance Fund and it will also be included in next year’s budget. Budapest Chamber of Physicians GPs section head Aurél Kertai said this sum will increase the earnings of GP practises by 15-20%.

Fidesz spokesman Péter Szíjjártó commented that it has become clear that funds are available and can be paid to GPs. “The minority government is no longer in a position to maintain the façade, and was obliged to return the funds it siphoned off from GPs earlier.”
