Fidesz-run Budapest district takes law into own hands

The Fidesz-run Second District is funding a two-month series of police raids on Moszkva tér to enforce law and order, as the city of Budapest has taken no action, despite promises, mayor Zsolt Láng said Tuesday.

Moszkva tér has gained notoriety as a place to hire black market manual labourers and for its illegal street vendors, Népszabadság remarks. Police raids will cost the Second District Ft 5 million.

The square officially belongs to Budapest, but the public maintenance company FKF, Budapest Police and public transport company BKV are responsible for some parts. In addition, the square is at the intersection of the First, Second and Twelfth Districts.

Béla Danielisz, Socialist head of city council’s law enforcement committee, told Népszabadság that the city’s contract concluded with Budapest Police sets the maintenance of law and order in the square as a top priority, and civil guards monitor the square at night.

Great News and a long time coming. I hope they next crack down on the African drug dealers in Blaha Lujza Square with their Nigerian registered, uninsured cars with Lagos plates.
Seems they can get away with anything!
