Orbán to launch premature election campaign today

Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán will make a speech at the Ybl palace at 3 p.m. today to close the political season. Fidesz will reportedly declare “combat readiness,” as sources close to Orbán believe that he is seriously preparing for early elections, Népszabadság writes. The speech will be broadcast live on Fidesz’s website.

Fidesz preparations for early elections are in full swing, and the party will soon start a campaign training course at Balatonszárszó, the newspaper adds. Rich Beeson, political director of the US Republican Party, will take part in the training, alongside other American campaign advisers who have already arrived. Beeson is set to share his knowledge with party director Gábor Kubatov and MEP András Gyürk, the latter of whom will lead preparations for next year’s European parliamentary elections from September 1.

The training course will begin next week, rather than this week as originally planned, because of Orbán’s speech today, Magyar Hírlap reports. Fifth District mayor Antal Rogán and caucus leader Tibor Navracsics will also speak at the Ybl palace.
