Workers’ Party chairman protests red star fine

A court decision to fine Hungarian Workers’ Party 2006 Deputy Chairman Attila Vajnai for Ft 120,000 (€485) for using the red star symbol has been upheld, reports liberal daily Népszabadság. According to Hungarian law, the red star has been a symbol or tyranny since 1993 and its use constitutes a crime.

The Budapest Court punished Vajnai and party member Sándor Horváth for public use of the symbol on several occasions. Horváth was handed a one-year suspended sentence. Vajnai is protesting the decision and refusing to pay the fine, which could lead to the sentence increasing to a prison term. If this comes to pass, he says he will apply for political asylum.

It is a good job that I did not build my (proposed) pocket cruiser (a 6M) sail boat with living quarters. It was to wear the ‘House flag’ of the ‘Betelgeuse line’. This is a red star!
