About 1,000 mostly elderly people gathered at the Fiumei út cemetery to mark the anniversary of Communist-era ruler János Kádár’s death on Saturday. Kádár died on July 6, 1989 on the same day that the Supreme Court rehabilitated Imre Nagy.
“Kádár said ‘Have a hearty meal, you only live once,’ while Gyurcsány keeps saying ‘starve to death, this will cost the country less,’” Communist Workers Party leader Gyula Thürmer said in his speech.
“All powers can be removed and we shall unseat this ruling power,” he vowed
Kádár’s grave was desecrated in May of last year, when vandals stole his skull and several bones as well as the urn containing his wife’s ashes. Police closed their investigation on November 29 without any result.
