Hard-pressed District V serfs get one more royal mouth to feed

holy-rogan.jpgA month or two before this site was launched last fall, our sister site Pestiside.hu took a shot at the laughably sycophantic treatment by a supposedly “independent” newspaper in Budapest’s District V of the wedding of Antal Rogán, the pointlessly high-profile mayor of the centrally-located but mostly resident-free neighborhood. We now hear that His Serene Highness’s radiant consort Cecília is with child, leading to much excitement throughout the Rogán lands, which are so large as to take a normal peasant like you or us nearly 45 minutes to transverse by ox or foot.

According to tabloid Blikk, after Rogán bought Cecília a pet Beagle for last year’s Valentine’s Day, the couple decided that a baby would be an even better addition to their new life together. She is only a few weeks pregnant, and, according to her doctors, it is possible that the child will be born on Valentine’s Day 2009.

All of which sounds more romantic than it actually is, given that Antal, like most Hungarian politicians, already has at least one child from a former wife he ditched for something a little more fresh. (Though the story does say that the poor wretch Rogán abandoned is “looking forward” to his new brother or sister.)

Meanwhile, if you live or work in District V, the more Rogán heirs Cecília squeezes out, the higher your taxes are likely to be, in which case you’ll probably be happy to hear the royal pair only plan on two or three at most. And to think some people actually believe Budapest doesn’t need 23 different mayors…
