Far-right provocateur website blamed for threat on journalist

The far-right website “nacikhaza”, rather than the “Nazi Hunters” website, was behind a call last week urging Roma and others to lynch Magyar Hírlap journalist Zsolt Bayer, Népszabadság reports today.

The Hungarian Nazi Hunters Federation restated that it has no ties with “the far-right trash” and dissociated itself from articles calling for a murder attempt. Federation members retain anonymity, Népszabadság notes. The liberal daily adds that Magyar Hírlap erroneously labelled the “nacikhaza” website as far-left in a report on Monday.

Magyar Hírlap writes that the prosecutor’s office will not investigate the website ef officio, while police say they suspect harassment.

The Socialist Party has dissociated itself from the Nazi Hunters, the liberal daily says, and government spokesman Dávid Daróczi also issued a similar statement on behalf of Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány.
