Fidesz says opposition suggested government of experts in 2006

The main opposition Fidesz party came up with the idea of replacing the government with a group of experts back in 2006, Tibor Navracsics, Fidesz’s parliamentary group leader, told reporters on Tuesday.

At that time Fidesz had proposed a technocrat government with a limited authority defined by all five parliamentary parties, Navracsics reiterated. He added that the idea was to form a cabinet of trusted professionals rather than of party politicians.

Navracsics was responding to former government coalition partner SZDSZ suggesting a government of experts, but he declined to say whether Fidesz would support the idea if SZDSZ makes an official proposal. Nor did he say whom his party would like to see at the helm of a hypothetical technocrat government.
