Foreign Ministry official says Hungary supports Georgia’s NATO bid

Hungary supports Georgia’s accelerated accession to NATO, state secretary at the foreign ministry Marta Fekszi Horvath told MTI on Tuesday.

Speaking after a meeting of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs committee, Horvath Fekszi said Hungary has supported all along plans to set up a NATO-Georgia committee.

Head of the foreign affairs committee Zsolt Nemeth (main opposition Fidesz) said Georgia should be invited to join NATO’s Membership Action Plan.

Hungarian Defence Minister Imre Szekeres said, in a statement last week, that the North Atlantic Council may soon decide on setting up a NATO-Georgia committee, one similar to the bodies formed with Ukraine and Russia previously.
