Hungary should consider suspending its negotiations with Russia over the South Stream natural gas pipeline, United States Ambassador April H Foley told MTI on Thursday.
The suspension of negotiations over South Stream — seen as a rival to the European Union-backed Nabucco pipeline — is a possibility which would be “useful for Hungary to think over,” said Foley, who was attending an energy conference at the Budapest headquarters of Freedom House.
Deputy Economy Minister Abel Garamhegyi told MTI that Hungary does not intend to break off negotiations with Russia over the deal to co-operate on bringing the proposed pipeline into Hungarian territory.
