Gyurcsány sees Bajnai as potential successor as prime minister

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány would, if necessary, allow National Development and Economy Minister Gordon Bajnai follow him in his post, writes Hirextra.hu, based on a Magyar Hírlap report.

According to the daily, both the Socialist caucus and Free Democrats supporting former chairman János Kóka find Bajnai an acceptable candidate, and the latter group is still a majority in Parliament compared to those supporting current chairman Gábor Fodor.

Free Democrat sources told the paper that Kóka and other MPs may even vote for the tax package and the budget law, saving Gyurcsány’s government.
