MPs clashed in an opening debate on a new civil code in Parliament on Tuesday. Socialist Party keynote speaker Szilvia Kovács Frank proposed that childless marriages could be dissolved before a public notary.
Fidesz MP Tamás László called for a revocation of the draft and initiated the restoration of a 30-day pre-nuptial waiting period and the abolition of the possibility of obtaining a divorce before the public notary.
Democratic Forum caucus leader Károly Herényi said the report is not suitable for general debate in its present form. Free Democrat Miklós Faragó Hankó urged the Justice Ministry and the House constitutional committee to establish a joint commission to revise the draft.
Christian Democrat György Rubovszky said he sees constitutional problems regarding the provisions on hate speech and registered life partnerships.
