Slovakia’s ambassador to Hungary was summoned to the Hungarian Foreign Ministry on Thursday, and was asked to provide answers to issues concerning the Hungarian minority in his country, the ministry’s deputy spokesman Lajos Kohari told MTI.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Kinga Goncz asked Juraj Migas to provide an explanation for “Slovak manifestations of the past few weeks that the Hungarian side considers unacceptable and incomprehensible given that the two are neighbouring European Union and NATO members,” the statement said.
At the meeting, Goncz cited Slovakia’s failure to meet an earlier commitment to include the Hungarian versions of place names in Slovak textbooks and voiced Hungary’s resentment over the fact that Hungarian schools in Slovakia had received hardly any of the EU funds granted to that country for educational purposes.
The foreign minister also noted that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico bore political responsibility for the parties in his government’s coalition, and added that some ideas voiced by certain politicians in that coalition “equaled hate speech.”
Goncz is expecting an answer from Slovakia “possibly before the end of next week,” and will consider further diplomatic steps “in reflection to that answer,” the statement said.
The Slovak foreign ministry rejected the Hungarian ministry’s position “on the whole and in all of its detail,” read a document sent to MTI’s Bratislava office on Thursday evening.
According to the document, Bratislava considers Hungary’s tone and its unfounded allegations unacceptable. Budapest has been seeking confrontation with its positions and actions ever since the current Slovak administration led by Robert Fico took office following democratic elections, said the document.

Well as a Hungarian citizen I’m overly tired of

As a 40-something…. This is a question I have been pondering since the 2002 election, when the local MIEP candidate took the time to explain to my Hungarian wife, that our children were not really Hungarian. The reason I’m here is because I fell in love with a lady that couldn’t be persuaded to leave Hungary. Having lived here for 13 years I have to agree with much of Robi’s comparision between Hungary and the UK, and would prefer to stay.
I think the revolution will come only in response to economic disaster, but as the financial system is now reliving the early 1930′s the only thing holding it back is the worlds confidence in its ability to solve these problems. Should the shit hit the fan, there will be the usual scapegoating and as Ricsi and HotP. make clear, the traditional candidates have already been identified. My worry for us is that there is not really a significant jewish owned block in the economy, significant asset seisures can only be realised by seizing all foreign assets. How long before “nationalisations” would extend to foreigners and the not really Hungarian – i.e. my house.
As for escape routes, my wife is as reluctant to leave Hungary as always, my children have no other home – I have have raised them to think of themselves as Hungarians with an English Dad rather half English/half Hungarian, but their country may not want them. And would the UK want my wife if Hungary became a hostile country?

conspiracy). The study was about the mtDNA of modern
Hungarians and was carried out by Italian and Hungarian
scientists.
Their conclusion: “These results suggest that the influence of
Magyars on the Hungarian gene pool has been very low through
both females and males and the Hungarian language could be
an example of cultural dominance.”
So Hungarians are, genetically, just like the rest of us Europeans,
except they speak a language from a different group to most of
us and have been victims of magyar cultural imperialism in the
past. Come on all you red blooded Hungarians, throw off the
shackles of the hated magyar oppression and rise up against

Which part of what I said was untrue?
a. You dont want to give up your other citizenship,but claim to be Magyar uberpatriots
b. want to remove rights & privileges of some existing Hungarian citizens who have been born and brought up here, in spite of you having received more rights, privileges, and opportunities in a country in which you or your parents were not the original settlers.
c. you disparage your other country, but not want to give up its privileges
All 3 above are hypocritical acts.
@Hot Pap – dont just rely on your intuition. Use some logic and reason – Your intuition didn’t tell you how many were offended by your remarks? In life, many may be silent(they are not cowards), but some may take you on and give you a bloody nose, or a bruised ego (they’re not heroes).

If you are using adjectives to describe someone/some group, you’re probably not debating but making a judgement (unless you’re following up with a specific act which an impartial person would accept as evidence).
@Ricsi, Hot Pap – I am actually quite positive on young Hungarian minds, which is why I decided to stay and help them. I enjoy my work, and judging from the feedback and reviews, they do too. As I said,I’m not here looking for shekels/mammon etc, and indeed I don’t get any dosh for this work. My wages are for other unrelated regional work. A lot of the negativity you perceive is my (& others) rejection of your specific views of Hungary.
I do regret having to up the ‘ante’ in my tirade, but I did want to make a point. Unnecessary racist statements and incessant ranting flowing through Hungarian society (or these boards) does not solve any real issues. It only inflames others.

I was just trying to be open about that Hungarians
does not like foreigners, but usually do not tell
them. But I think planing escape routes are a
little over reacting… I think Hungarian is who
speaking and thinking on this language and
enriches our culture and country! But we do not
like and deffenetly do not trust our emigrants either… as you can see even in this topic they

It is so refreshing to hear that there are more people like you who are aware of the real situation in Hungary, sorry to hear about your grandfather.. My mother and her family were imprisoned between 2 – 5 years for trying to escape Hungary in the 1954.. Then when they left prison they were treated as second class citizens, there second attempt worked and they went to Australia..

Thank-you for making this point, I witnessed some of this reaction to returning emigrants when I first came to Hungary in ’93. But I didn’t think my place to point it out to HotP and Ricsi, not being a Hungarian.
Do you think that Jobbik etc. would take returning emigrants seriously, or just use them for propaganda?

I don’t really know about Jobbik. I think being
ultra nationalist is rather an ill state of mind
than a political opinion. But as I know most
Hungarians just tag emigrants as traitors. Still I
think the radicals have some point in that the
socialists were “selling out” the Country to the
west. But even I’m very tired of this record but I
think Hungary should introduce stricter foreign
policies, mutual visa rules and at least taxing
equally multinational companies etc.
About funnier things. I really enjoyed the
photos. As you can see on them Hungarians
originally had that type of eye… even some of
the old paintings in the National gallery had the
eyes changed later… so if there would be a 100%
Hungarian would look Asian… If you go to the
Kunsag, you can still see it on some people
especially women. Oh, and our heritage does not
withold us to hate Asians, Hungary I guess the
only country in Europe having a decreasing Chinese
community… In Central Europe most people are
genetically connected no matter they consider
themselves Slovak or Hungarian or Jew… I also
aware that the world is turning to be a global
village, where everybody will be blue)) But as
long as I live I’d like to live in a Country where
the color of Man is white and woman are in the
kitchen with the kids. And Yepp only because it’s
more comfortable for me! As one of my friend said:

They have some positive vision for the future of Hungary, there might be a few skins in the group but they have to belong somewhere, the majority have a love for Hungary, history, arts and culture and are figting to maintain it before everyone ends up claiming what is Hungarian is French, English or German etc..
