The NATO meeting in Budapest will play an vital role in preparing for next year’s jubilee NATO summit, Hungary’s Defence Minister Imre Szekeres told a parliamentary committee on Tuesday.
Speaking ahead of NATO’s informal ministerial meeting starting on Thursday, Szekeres said NATO General Secretary Jaap de Hoop Scheffer had told ministers in a letter that the Budapest meeting would be one of the most important stages of preparations for the 60th anniversary summit, where NATO’s new strategy is due for adoption.
The concept for that strategy is set to be one of the main topics of the meeting in Budapest.
Szekeres said there would not be a NATO-Russia summit at the meeting in Budapest.
