Slovak President proposes talks with Hungarian counterpart over extremism

Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic proposed talks with his Hungarian counterpart Laszlo Solyom over Hungarian-Slovak relations, during a visit to Poland on Tuesday, Slovakia’s news agency TASR reported.

The presidential talks are aimed at a joint statement condemning extremism in both countries, Gasparovic’s spokesman told TASR. Marek Trubac added that the Slovak president called for cooperation and understanding to improve bilateral relations.

President Solyom will soon respond to Gasparovic’s initiative, a senior official of the Hungarian president’s office told MTI later on Tuesday.

Both presidents visited Poland to attend celebrations of the country’s Independence Day.

It seems like hungarian president is waiting for something. What for? In the last days hungarian diplomacy has been heard that radicals from both sides cannot dictate relationship between the two countries. But when comes to that, high hungarian representative keep silent.

Most Hungarians view Solyom as just way too inactive. He pulls out of any discussion or never even gets into it.
