Budapest mayor warns economic woes may lead to scapegoating of Roma

Hungary’s Roma could be vulnerable to being seen as scapegoats in poorer regions amidst the current financial crisis, Mayor Budapest Gabor Demszky said at a conference on Tuesday.

Demszky, who trained as a sociologist, said people who will suffer a fall in living standards due to the crisis will blame minorities, mainly the Roma, for their problems.

This will be a serious problem in the poorer parts of the country, he said. Budapest has no ethnic conflicts of the kind that are daily occurrences in the provinces, he added.

Canadian Governor-General Michaelle Jean, who also attended the conference, said the first step to combatting discrimination was recognising the advantages of multiplicity to the economy and society.

The world monetary fund! IMF and the Capitalism greed! This is the cause! Gabor Demszky is using reverse psychology to take the focus away from the real culprits, by him making these claims is already planting the seed of blame on the Roma, the Roma have always been a drain on society.

The roma have done more than their fair share of damage to the city, but they cannot compete with Demszky. He is not a “scapegoat”, he’s guilty.

Is it true that there is no Hungarian word for “introspection”?

We have a word for “introspection”, but we don’t need it.
We’re pretty good at “extrospection” and we don’t even need a Hungarian word for that.
