Parties deny Communist-era spies among MPs parliament

News portal Zoom.hu has published denials by all the major parties apart from SZDSZ that state security agents from the Communist era are still operating in Parliament. The allegations were reported by the same source on November 21.

In addition to denying knowledge that their MPs were members of the III/II counter-espionage division, the parties demanded to be providing names of the alleged agents, without which no investigation could be conducted.

Because the unit dealt with counter-espionage it has not come under scrutiny until now, unlike former members of the III/III division, which was engaged in “conventional” espionage. These former spies were barred from taking up seats in parliament in 2002.
