Hungarian Democratic Forum leader Ibólya Dávid has announced that she will waive her parliamentary immunity in order to clear her name of allegations made by party rival Kornél Almássy, writes Index.hu”.
The case centers around Almássy’s accusations of “underworld tactics” used by the party leadership – including threats issued to his wife and supporters – to discourage his challenging of Dávid for the top party post.
But the controversy at this point has been muddled with a variety of counter-accusations. Almássy is suing Dávid for slander after being called an “unworthy man” to take up the post, while Dávid has recordings of a phone call between OTP CEO Sándor Csányi and a private security agency implicating Almássy in attempting to gather incriminating information about Dávid.
