Roma MEP to be face of Fidesz’s European Parliamentary election campaign

Next year, Lívia Jároka will be the face of opposition party Fidesz’s European Parliamentary campaign, left-leaning daily Népszava reports. According to the newspaper’s sources, the sole Roma member of Fidesz’s current EP delegation will be the centerpiece of a video to be featured in next year’s campaign.

While the identity and placement of the candidates who will be on the party’s list for the election is unknown, János Áder, Tamás Deutsch and Ildikó Pelcné Gáll are all expected to feature well up the list. Also expected to be on the list are current Fidesz EP faction leader József Szájer, András Gyürk, Csaba Őry, and Pál Schmitt, although Schmitt is expected to be lower on the list given his lower drawing power with voters.

According to daily, Fidesz Chairman Viktor Orbán will launch the party’s European Parliamentary campaign in January, on the assumption that the earlier the campaign starts, the better chances his party will have, even though the vote will only take place in June. Rumors have also circulated that current Fidesz spokesman Péter Szijjártó may be placed on the EP list, although it is unknown if he wishes to stay in Hungary or not.
