Sunday's first round of the Ninth District by-election was invalid, as only 25.9% of the district's 31,058 eligible voters turned out. A second round will be held on January 25 in which a turnout of 25% will render the result valid.
Fidesz-Christian Democrat candidate János Bácskai took 4,697 votes, 58.7% of the total, well ahead of Socialist Tamás Bánsághi at 1,850, or 23.1%.
Csanád Szegedi of the far right Jobbik received 681 votes, 419 went to Free Democrat Emese John, 295 to Tibor Várady of the Humanist Party and 63 to Péter Paulik of the Hungarian Communist Workers Party, according to official results.
The by-election is necessary because Free Democrat MP Ferenc Gegesy gave up his seat and quit the party in the middle of September.

With this 8,5% result, Jobbik is now getting stronger and stronger.
