Ukrainian president cancels Hungary visit

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko yesterday called off a meeting with President László Sólyom planned for Nyíregyháza today, in order to deal with the Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute.

Sólyom’s office said the notification sent through diplomatic channels gave no explanation for the cancellation. Yushchenko was to pay a working visit at Sólyom’s invitation.

Sólyom last met Yushchenko in Ukraine on July 7. Sólyom also met Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and Speaker Arseni Yatsenyuk on that trip, as well as ethnic Hungarians.
