Romanian President to visit Hungary next week

Romanian President Traian Basescu is scheduled to visit Hungary on February 2 and 3, Bucharest daily Uj Magyar Szo said on Thursday, quoting the Hungarian Presidential Office.

Next week’s visit will be the president’s first to Hungary. He is scheduled to hold talks with counterpart Laszlo Solyom, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany and Parliamentary Speaker Katalin Szili.

Basescu’s programme includes a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hungarian Heroes’ Monument and the Romanian heroes’ mausoleum at Budapest’s New public cemetery.

Solyom will host a state banquet for his counterpart at the Museum of Fine Arts on Monday evening. On Tuesday, Basescu will visit the Romanian Education and Cultural Centre in Gyula in south-east Hungary and meet the bishop of Saint Nicholas Cathedral.

    Hi Ricsi,
Ever since I’ve been contributing on this website, I don’t recall any stirred up Romanians around here. Stirred up Slovaks, we seem to have had our fair share of! Perhaps the Romanians aren’t as insecure or angst ridden. Romania is larger, has resources and access to the sea. Slovakia is small and the people may be easily made paranoid by some Hunky like me talking plebescites. What say you? What do you think is going on?
