Liberal leader urges Gyurcsány, Orbán to work together

Free Democrat chairman Gábor Fodor on Friday appealed in letters sent to Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán that they “lay aside” some differences in their political standoff and attempt to hammer out a joint position on matters that serve the benefit of the nation, Fodor himself announced at a press briefing.

He asked Gyurcsány that the cabinet should not pursue a communications offensive but engage in “specific and intelligent action” serving the benefit of the nation.

Fodor appealed to Orbán that “Fidesz should acknowledge” that it would cause an even graver political crisis in Hungary if Fidesz attempted to force early elections, adding that all will be able to assess their standing at next year’s elections.

The liberal leader confirmed that his party disagrees with the planned VAT hike but continues to support a tax reshuffle.
