New contingent of 250 Hungarian soldiers leaves for Afghanistan

A new Hungarian contingent of 250 soldiers to Afghanistan were seen off in Debrecen, E Hungary, on Monday.

They will be part of the Hungarian provincial reconstruction team in Afghanistan, Defence Minister Imre Szekeres said, addressing the farewell ceremony of the soldiers, who will serve in the NATO-led mission International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

The Afghanistan mission boosts Hungary’s international reputation, Szekeres added.

For the time being, 300 staff members of the Hungarian armed forces are being stationed in Afghanistan. The Hungarian provincial reconstruction team has built roads, small water work facilities, schools and medical centres as well as financing medical developments, police training and veterinary health projects in the northern Baghlan province.
