WTF ?? The US incarcerated them, let them give them homes and compensation if innocent.
Ricsi, remember, free license plates! Inmates are a resource for the government. Plus, you’ll have a new facility paid for by American tax dollars to house all those soccer hooligans! Or the police that beat on them!
This whole story is retarded – I think it’s basically Goncz just talking out of her rear end. If any these “hooligans” end up being planted in any country in the region, it will be somewhere else, for the simple reason that the US would never entrust something like this to Hungary. I’m even surprised they fly their CIA planes through Ferihegy, given the airport is always on strike…
the only thing they (government/EU) want is that Hungary will look as the western countries now….full of immigrants….with all the problems we see in the West these days….
Geza, I coud not agree with you more on the subject of immigration! Unrestricted immigration destroys a country’s moral fiber and inner strength by diluting its culture. Especially when assimilation is not the goal of the immigrant. The US was a great country when immigrants arrived there to become Americans. Now they just come in to take advantage of the liberal social programs and don’t even bother to learn English. Soon enough the American SW will become the nation of Aztlan….sound like the Erdely story?
Let’s not forget that many Americans view incarceration as an “industry”(!), a “job engine”(!) In this case, if we took these people over on their behalf, the Americans would view us as “subcontractors”, like we were on a big construction project. No doubt, by making such a proposal, they must imagine that they are sharing with us crumbs from the banquet table! In a weird way, it’s a sign of their favor and confidence, although many here would be hard put to see it that way. In how many other nations is the housing of inmates seen as a “window of opportunity”?
As “incarceration subcontractors”, we are entitled to our “fees, expenses and fair profit”, and the money driven Americans would expect no less from us. Their dilemma is that on the one hand, they don’t want to turn the inmates loose, but for “public relations” reasons, they don’t want to go on housing them at Guantanamo. (Nor do they want to take them into US prisons.) So they’re casting about to find “partners”.
My business experience tels me to “price ourselves out of the market” on this! That’s what you do when you don’t want to take a business offer, but don’t want to just say “No”. To save face (on both ends), you just quote some high price that is not likely to be met. “A billion dollars per inmate! (Per year!) You can also ask for money to build that facility that would house them. If relations with the Islamic world suffer for us as a result, that of course would call for additional compensatory fees!
Mr. Farkas, Salutations! In the US there is an acronym called NIMBY. What this means is “Not In My Back Yard”. The focus is to move undesirable but necessary social and community operations as far away form population centers as possible. Garbage collection, land fills, power plants and sanitation facilities are outsourced and located far away from home, preferably in the next state or country even. These are also hugely profitable with the typical US government profligate spending attitude. So incarcerating these wannabe terrorists in Hungary would be considered as a business transaction but with high political overtones. It would definitely meet the American attitude of NIMBY! As for the suggestion of pricing it outrageously high…probably would not make a difference. Remember, Obama is King, the Messiah and all that. Money is no object if HE deems it so!
