Gyurcsány demands state bodies cut off conservative daily

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány is asking state companies and institutions to cancel subscriptions to Magyar Hírlap and not to place any advertisements in the daily, in response to a commentary in Monday's edition.

In the essay, staff member Zsolt Bayer described the perpetrators of Saturday night's stabbing in Veszprém as "murderous animals," and wrote "regrettably, many members of the Gypsy minority have given up on co-existence and humanity". They "are not human beings, but animals," he said.

Government spokeswoman Bernadett Budai said Gyurcsány had instructed Justice and Law Enforcement Minister Tibor Draskovics to investigate whether proceedings can be launched in connection with the article on ethical or legal grounds.

Magyar Hírlap editor István Stefka replied "we are 100% behind Bayer, and we see nothing objectionable in what he wrote". Gyurcsány's action is unconstitutional, violates freedom of the press and free speech, and is an attempt to undermine the newspaper, he said. It is also evocative of the Rákosi and Kádár eras, he added.

The biggest advertiser in the newspaper last year was state-run MTV, with Ft 15.9 million, according to Népszava.

The newspaper's owner, entrepreneur Gábor Széles, declared "perhaps now a turnaround will occur in this story, and Ferenc Gyurcsány will be removed, as this will simply not be tolerated by the West. I am convinced that if we take this case to the West and familiarise the EU with this through the appropriate press organs, Gyurcsány will be discredited".

The newspaper is planning a demonstration in support of freedom of the press outside the Justice Ministry on Kossuth tér at 2 p.m. on Friday.

The point here is that the PM is more interested in attacking a
newspaper than tracking down and exterminating the vermin
(sorry, Gypsies) who killed and maimed their victims.

If a member of his family was killed by these pigs would he still act
the way he has?

When the truth is told the liars resort to crushing freedom of the press ,Gyurcsány is a liar, thief, hypocrite and now clearly a gutless coward, but he is STILL prime minister--WAKE UP PEOPLE and get rid of the scum.

I love how those who disregard human rights and make hateful remarks are always so quick to call on 'freedom of speech' and the 'west'. That editorial was appalling in content and frankly, written in a nauseating style. It's said that one of the two major national broadsheets falls short of journalistic standards not only ethically but linguistically too.

That said, this was a shockingly bad move on the PM's part.

FayeFaye
What part of the truth did you not understand ?
should we praise these murderous filth ?

Faye Faye and Ricsi, greetings! An editorial is just that, an opinion. It is part and parcel of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Mr Gyurcsany can express his opinion as well. However, trying to use government to surpress the expression of commentary is undemocratic and should be condemned. If the editorial expressed in the newspaper is offensive to you....do not read it, or do not purchase the paper. If it follows your opinion then by all means support the paper! Otherwords, let the free market determine the efficacy of free ideas and opinions! We do it here on this forum very well!

With freedom of speech comes responsibility. And that's something that Ricsi and Sekes no nothing about.

The editorial is irresponsible and offencive.

But Joe, that is exactly what I mean! It is offensive but so are you! But that doesn't mean I should get the government to ban you from this blog! To quote a great American (and aren't we all!) "I might heartily disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!"

So for you it's okay to yell "fire" in a crowded theatre?

So for you it's okay to call an entire ethnic group "animals?"

If so, than you are an idiot!

Ah Joe, now you are confusing acts with opinion! Don't stretch your intelligence to find the right balance between common sense and frivolity! Haven't you ever heard the children's phrase "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me"? Grow a pair and quit being offended all the time. To me, both of the comments by Gyurscany and Bayer are not really polite dialogue. But Gyursci's quip to bring government force to quell the language of Bayer is far worse. We are all responsible for our words, and a free people can choice whom to listen to. But we do not need Gyurscany or you to infict the beginnings of totalitarianism on us.

You don't understand that freedom of speech comes with responsibility - so go fuck yourself.

I have better things to do than to argue with an idiot.

By the way does anyone know the ethnicity of the guys that committed those murders in Csepel?

Joe, so sad. Name calling is the last resort of intellectual failure. It's not that you have better things to do, you just can't put up a defense against truth and realism. But I understand your limitations and won't burden you further on it. I will also have to say I'm sorry to diappoint you on the action you have asked of me. I seldom lack for female assistance in that respect and will kindly have to forego it! I'm sure you'll understand, and if not, you can ask one of your boyfriends to assist you in performing the act upon yourself, since you obviously lack the size of equipment to do it yourself! Have a nice day or as my friends would say, Szebb Jovott!

Adjon az Isten, szebb jövőt! Stan your poetry and sense is flowing like usual, keep up the patriotic good will mate!! and we will slowly clean out this country of little Joeys, and help expose these hypocrites, Liers and theives..

Hot Pap! You have cut me to the quick! No telling how much harm you have caused poor Stan! Unless, poor sod, he is hiding around here somewhere!

Szekes Sorry mate, a slip of the mind :-) All credit to yourself Cheers :-)

Hot Pap! You're just missing your vegemite sandwhich too much! Ziros kenyer es zold paprikaval joob lessel!

Szekes:
The quote "I disagree with what you say, but I would defend to the death your right to say it," usually attributed to Voltaire, did not originate with an American.
It’s reassuring to see that the far right’s grasp of the facts is as sound as ever.

Hi Kincs, the exact quote, yes. But you will find that many historical figures throughout American history have expressed that same thought. And as you noticed, I did not quote Voltaire's illustrious quote verbatim, but paraphrased it in the way it has been repeated.
Other than that, I bow to your superior knowledge! However, it does not change the emphasis of my statements, as poor suffering Joe has found out!

If you were to bow to my superior knowledge, Szekes, then you wouldn’t hold the silly views that you do.
But thanks for the thought.

Kincs
Do not over rate yourself !
Chomsky was the most recent US citizen to use that quote, you can see it everyday on a real new site--www.rense.com.

Here is another very apt quote-"Better to be confused in the search for truth than fully confident and sound asleep in a dream of lies "
--Michael Nystrom.

It's funny that absolutely no one knows for sure if the murderers were of Roma descent. Nor would anyone take a moment to discuss the issue in the comments section when it came up. Rather, like all ideologies, the appeal of stereotypes is that it simplifies the profound into black and white decisions. Murder? Gypsies. Hate Speech? Free Speech. Let's ignore the consequences of a very public, very loud voice laying the fetid base for racial hatred and crime. Let's ignore the very real possibility that some 'patriotic' human might go 'rid the earth' of some perfectly innocent 'gypsy scum.' After all, they're just an animal. No one's rights were restricted--no one was censored (unlike say, here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/7882953.stm). The government is empowered by the electorate, and next year we will see the electorate's true colors. Though it may be a very sad day for this republic.

P.Kong
Where have you been hiding ? Of course they are known to be Gypsies, the gang was the 'Veszprémi banda' out for the night (with knives). They are well known and have been caught on CCTV also.
To call scum 'animals' is actually an insult on animals ,who in nature only kill for food or in self defence--unlike these vermin.
Sorry to see you fear the demise of the current gang in power, how you think any change could be a sad day is mystifying.

Sure, I'll grant you that the murderers were of Roma descent. The problem is that you seem to confuse who the 'vermin' are, and without being offensive I'd like to discuss that. First, you've consistently confused individuals (or, based on your accusations, even organizations!) who have committed murder with an entire ethnic group. This is just silly, and I suppose what has been motivating me to reply to your comment-board demagoguery. But you take a hopelessly pre-enlightenment view of an individual's ability to rehabilitate themselves.

My comment regarding the government has to do with the legal basis of Gyurcsány's move to pull government subscriptions and advertisements to and from M.H. Regardless of who you support, you come off sounding like the reasons you intend to vote are racially motivated. That's the sad part.

Kong
Read Carboodle, the adjacent site--they are Roma from Sárbogárd and the local Roma leader says that they have brought shame on all Roma. I could not agree more.

I told you that I'd grant you that fact. But it's irrelevant what a 'local Roma leader' says. Why should people who have nothing to do with a crime fear retaliation? That is not how a modern justice system works.

I don't know your 'race,' 'ethnicity,' 'nationality,' 'color,' or 'religion,' but whichever you choose to affiliate with, I bet you could find shameful acts perpetrated by constituent members, past or present. I don't get how people fail to understand this, but I would caution you against it.

@ Ricsi
"...they have brought shame on all Roma. I could not agree more."

I disagree with you. They have brought shame on themselves, and on their families, and NOT on the entire ethnic group.

Be careful what you wish for...

ok maybe not all but 80 % are stealing, mugging, raping, school bullying, murdering and living off welfare, and that is being generous with the percentage! go out to the Hungarian villages in the regional areas instead of watching 101 gypsies playing in Vienna or touring the globe, that is the fantasy of most westerners veiws on the gypsies and it is not the reality of the situation!

Ricsi, Stan and Hotpaprika, unholy trinity of idiocy and false patriotism, I hope you three are all strangled by your stupid Garda uniforms. Only in that way could you do any good for Hungary whatsoever, by removing yourselves from it.

Your playing hard to get Marishka, Lots of Love xxx

Never mind
That was not MY quote but the Gypsy leader in Sárbogárd, I just agreed but did not claim it as mine.

Mariska,
I think you will find all three mentioned have never worn a Gárda uniform, though I have nothing against an organisation that helps flood victims, hands out toys at Christmas, protects vulnerable villagers and sings patriotic songs in its spare time.

Hotpaprika: you have still failed to address the real issue. In a modern system of justice, an individual is responsible only for their actions, not the actions of someone who shared a common ancestor. I understand that it may be comforting to think that social ills can be cured by shoveling all the blame on a group that you are not a member of, but please do not expect the organs of justice to react in such an unsophisticated and unjust way. Even if there were 10,000 members of an 'ethnic' group were duly convicted of heinous crimes, the 10,001st member would still be innocent until proven guilty.

Of course you have nothing against the Gárda, Ricsi.

Only losers sing patriotic songs in their spare time and you recognize yourself as one of them - with or without a uniform.

Idiots of a feather flock together. Now go flock off.

Not wishing to sign off anonymously, that last one was me.

@Ricsi: Do you not agree with the quote now?

Joe,
Marching in the gay parade makes you feel special, doesn't it?

Every second you spend thinking about my sexual orientation is a second you could have used to save your blessed little Magyarország!

Go get a life, loser!

Joe, you misunderstood stan. He wasn't talking about sexual orientation; he meant he was jealous that you're so happy. Unfortunately stan has to spend his whole life worrying about the (nonexistent) "racially-inferior gypsies" roaming the countryside on murderous rampages, while gay individuals such as ourselves can enjoy life. Sure does make me feel special.

You're probably right, Trinity. Stan never misses a chance to mention my orientation. Actually, I think he spends too much time thinking about my sexuality. Hmmmm.

Joey the pillow biter is back, wishful thinking mate, go try and recruit some gays somewhere else, there are plenty candidates amongst the Neo Liberal groups.. Your all a bunch of gay queer poofs. Now Truce! and have a bit of deceincy!! Grow Up!

You and your ilk, hotpaprika made a serious mistake when you attacked the Gay Pride parade in Budapest.

You see, you were attacking Hungarians. You were attacking Hungarian mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces. Your attack on other Hungarians is unforgivable.

You are a pig!!!

Ego Joe! is back!

Ricsi, if you seriously think the Garda is some sort of cuddly, benevolent patriotic club, you are even more delusional than I thought. The Garda exists to spread hate at other Hungarians in the name of keeping some stupid notion of "pure Magyar" whatever. It's completely against thousands of years of Hungarian tradition, more in a sort of Austro-German "tradition" of racial-based fascism.

Joe
Hungarians attacked local, home grown communists in 1956 and the new variant in 2006,are you saying that was wrong too,or are only gays spreading filth and masturbating openly in that parade of importance to you.
Homosexuality is useless,it produces nothing and is an hedonistic decadent practise that signals the destruction of civilised behaviour.

If homosexuality "signals the destruction of civilised behaviour," Ricsi kicsi pöcsi, you have nothing to worry about. You are already a waste of space.

Joe
Yeah ! right, whatever joe, you muppet.

Hi Kincs, Silly views? Yes, but without my silly views I would be just an empty shell. So for me, at least, the silly views are worthwhile. But be grateful, you are still my intellectual superior! :) As for Joe, I still rank higher than him! So the world is ok.

I'm not sure where this scenario begins and where it ends and if Berlusconi is a pawn in it.

However, he expressed his wish to extradite the gypsies from Italy, thing that, in the EU's views, is an inappropriate "Mussolini-type" behaviour.

The EU then stages a Romanian-Hungarian crime, aired in excess on the TV channels, in order to bake its new protectionist pro-gypsies legislation.

The demonstrators against the crime against the Romanian handball player are called "racists" and their banners "instigating".

Following this scenario, the EU will "have all the reasons" to make a law meant to defend the "poor roma minorites" from the "growing" racism and from the "negative" attitude most EU citizens display towards them.

A new law to protect these worms will hence be written down.

My question is why a political body such as the EU or the US would protect such lichens?

Which gain does the EU or the US have if they protect this rapidly growing pest, which will continue to grow not only in number but in crimes as well, as the result of this permissive legislation?

Will this law actually protect the East Europeans working in the West, with gypsies the pretext?

There are roughly 400,000 gypsies in Hungary--comprising 4-5% of the population. But there is no 100% proof, so don`t believe any figures above 6% as it`s not proven. The official communist media has often linked them to criminal activity, and many Hungarians agree with this characterization, the latest poll said 86% openly hate gypsies. Gypsy advocates say that while one sector of the gypsy population is prone to live outside the law, the majority of Hungarian gypsies want to earn an honest living.

Gypsies have had problems with social acceptability since they left India, probably around 1000 AD. They aroused suspicions on many counts. As nomadic people, they relied on seasonal work in circuses or fairs. Or they accepted jobs that locals found distasteful. In Romania, for example, many became undertakers or dogcatchers. In Bulgaria, the job of hangman and executioner was often carried out by gypsies. It was not uncommon for gypsy women to tell fortunes, beg, or operate as con artists.

After World War II, gypsy men were cheap unskilled labor for the newly created state-organized economic sector, accepting jobs other Hungarians disdained. But as factories cut back workers as part of the new economic reform, the gypsies aren’t wanted in industry anymore. They are also an easy target: It is simple to sack gypsies: they won’t have trade unions stepping in to protect them, and they haven’t any other base from which to fight back.

n the Stalinist years, East Europe’s gypsies were forced to settle. All the Soviet-bloc countries created fixed-address laws which said it was illegal to live a nomadic life. There were other, more insidious campaigns against the Roma.In Hungary, scores of Roma children were taken from their parents to be trained as musicians, a traditional occupation for gypsy males. In Czechoslovakia there were periodic campaigns to sterilize Roma women.

As harsh as these measures were, there were nothing new for the gypsies. In olden days, the gypsies of Eastern Europe were treated like animals, or worse. In the 16th century, gypsies were shot for bounty money. During World War II they suffered their own holocaust, with a half to 1.5 million perishing in concentration camps.
Today, Hungarian opinion makers see the gypsies as the country’s most stubborn social problem. They are the hard-core of a swelling underclass. With the spiraling prices, the ranks of the poor are growing quickly."The situation is changing because impoverishment has started hitting people who up until now had a middle-class existence,"."And these are people who are capable of looking after their own interests."

Before World War II,Hungary’s poverty was so conspicuous that the country won the nickname, "the country of three million beggars." With the installation of communist regimes after WWII, the banner cry was equality for all.But in truth, privilege and disadvantage were simply less talked about.

vera, vera, vera from bucharest! Bless you the rest!

When you say this "My question is why a political body such as the EU or the US would protect such lichens?"

do you mean whites, blacks, asians, gays... etc... please let me know!!
