Dávid proposes “constructive” no-confidence vote to make Bokros PM

The Democratic Forum will propose a constructive no-confidence motion to replace Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány with former finance minister Lajos Bokros, party leader Ibolya Dávid announced before regular business in Parliament Monday.

Unlike the leaders who are letting the country drift aimlessly, the Forum has a crisis management platform, sees the situation as it is and knows that Bokros is the most competent person to run the country, she said.

Under the constitution 78 MPs are required to support a constructive no-confidence motion, but 194 votes are needed to make it a success.

Fidesz caucus leader Tibor Navracsics said his party will not support the initiative, as early elections are what is necessary. Party sources told Népszabadság that Bokros and his platform are unacceptable.

They asserted that the constructive no-confidence motion may have been Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány’s idea, as there is no guarantee that a no-confidence vote would be successful, adding that Fidesz will not help to confirm Gyurcsány this way.
