Only Hungary’s two biggest parties will win seats in the June European parliamentary elections, according to a poll conducted by Nezopont Institute.
The poll, to be published in the weekly Heti Valasz on Thursday, indicates the main opposition centre-right Fidesz party with 16 seats and the governing Socialists with six seats in the new European Parliament.
If the elections were held next Sunday, 38 percent of decided voters would cast their ballots for Fidesz and 14 percent for the Socialists.
The liberal Free Democrats, the conservative Democratic Forum and the radical right-wing Jobbik party each receive 3 percent of votes, falling short of the 5 percent threshold, said Nezopont. Over half of those asked said that they would definitely turn up for the EP elections.
Hungary is represented by 24 deputies in the European Parliament. Twelve of them are from Fidesz, nine from the Socialists, two from the Free Democrats and one from the Democratic Forum. In the new Parliament, however, Hungary will only get 22 seats.
The poll was conducted from March 9 to 12 with a sample of a thousand adults.
