Police close off area around Gyurcsány’s home, citing protests

Police have closed off the area surrounding Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany’s home in the capital’s upmarket second district, the national police force (ORFK) said on Monday.

The closure was justified by the possibility of demonstrations involving “activities constituting a significant risk for the residence and for the persons protected,” said the force’s website.

Gyurcsany has been on the receiving end of an influx of “threatening or slanderous mail, electronic messages and personal remarks,” said police.

The area was closed for traffic on Sunday evening. The necessity for the closure is under continual review.

Gyurcsany, who was reelected as Socialist party leader at the weekend, has said he will step aside as prime minister in place of a successor who has yet to be chosen.

He’d better leave the country soon or surround himself with henchmen for the rest of his life because once he’s out of office, he’s gonna be in for some nasty suprises. The common folk has a lot to pay him back, if you know what I mean.

Too funny. First the Hungarian People demonstrate when they found out that the PM may have been misrepresented himself to get into office and called for resignation. He didn’t resign. So now he’s resigning and they are demonstrating yet again? There is just no pleasing the Hungarians.
