Hungary’s small opposition Democratic Forum (MDF) ruled out forming a coalition with the minority Socialist party, which is seeking a replacement for Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, at talks on Tuesday, the party’s leader told the press.
Ibolya David said her party would “not say no to a no-confidence vote in Gyurcsany, as it is important for the prime minister to step down.”
She added that MDF has always been in an opposite position to the Socialists, so a coalition must be ruled out.
But she said that the Democratic Forum might consider supporting a new prime minister from the opposition benches, if a suitable replacement was found.
Currently the small conservative party does not have enough MPs to form a parliamentary group.
