Jobbik holds demonstration against Bajnai appointment

Some 250 sympathizers of the radical nationalist Jobbik party gathered in front of Budapest’s Parliament building on Monday evening to protest against the prime minister candidacy of economy minister Gordon Bajnai.

Law professor Krisztina Morvai, leader of the extra-parliamentary party’s EP election list, read her “ultimatum” to the liberal Free Democrats not to support Bajnai’s election, otherwise they would hold demonstrations in front of the headquarters of the Free Democrats.

Gordon Bajnai’s nomination was okayed by the liberals early on Monday, after his Socialist party assured him of its support late Sunday night.

This ended a week-long search for a new prime minister, as Ferenc Gyurcsany announced his resignation from the post a week ago.

With the support of the liberals and the Socialists, Bajnai is expected to have enough deputies in Parliament to vote him into power.
