Fidesz, Hungary’s main conservative opposition party, has given warning to supporters of Jobbik, a radical nationalist party, that their vote would be wasted on the non-parliamentary party and it would be better to cast their ballots for Fidesz in the June European Parliamentary elections, Nepszava, a left-leaning daily, said on Tuesday.
Fidesz is quoted by the paper as saying that Jobbik, which polls around 4 percent — just below the 5 percent threshold for parliamentary seats — would be incapable of forming a government, and therefore votes would be better spent on Fidesz, which on current polling results could command a two-thirds majority in parliament, enough for it to change the constitution.
Fidesz has started its EP campaign in earnest, sending out over eight million pamphlets and voter registration papers this week. It has also begun an intensive telephone campaign, as well as collecting signatures in support of a three-strikes law for stricter criminal punishments.
Conservative daily Magyar Hirlap said that Fidesz enjoys the backing of over one thousand “get-out-the-vote” teams in order to “maximize their voter base”.
Fidesz has also campaigned for a dissolution of parliament and early elections, arguing that the minority Socialist government lacks any legitimacy.

This is why nobody within the EU (Brussels) wants to sit round a table with Viktor Orban.
Fidesz would set back Hungarys EU intergration by abot 25 years and Hungary at this point in time cannot afford to moving in the wrong direction.
The chances that the EU will be around as a functional entity in 25 years is virtualy nil. The fact that one is despised and shunned by antidemocratic, elitist Eurocrats is an insprational endorsement rather than a black mark. The only future Hungary will have within the EU is as a source of cheap labor and a dumping ground for cheap, low quality goods. One would rather see Hungary make some sort of common cause with other Central European states as Poland, Croatia, the Czech Republic and even Slovakia than be dragged down the spiraling drain that is the EU. Just one mans opinion, of course.
More then one mans view!
Far more than one mans view !
Fidesz is scared of the fact that they are percieved as too close to the centre line and not so difrent from the MSZP bánda.
Tanarur. First common sense I’ve heard for a long time. Fuck the EU. With its conformity on straight cucumbers and bananas. Its one-size fits all is an abomination.
Hungary has excellent craftsmen, who can build good houses, produce excellent ceramics,it also has a plethora of good doctors and dentists, writers, musicians etc etc.
Chinese imports are a problem too. They are cheap and nasty and last about as long as a bottle of good palinka!
Co-operating with its near neighbours in terms of commercial enterprise should be a priority.
The main problems for Hungary realising its true potential are: useless and corrupt, politicians,
a virtually non-existent justice system, and a local administration that belongs to feudal times.
Until Hungary gets a capable, and honest, government it will always be struggling.
