The Free Democrats expect the next cabinet to restore the prestige of a state governed by the rule of law, to apply means-testing principles in paying social benefits and to allow greater access to lists of Communist-era informants, party chairman Gábor Fodor told ATV station Wednesday evening.
These three points are not pre-conditions for his party’s support, but they are strong expectations, Fodor explained.
He said his party has developed a “supportive rapport” rather than a coalition with the Socialists, in which they will not blackmail one another but will negotiate.
Fodor said his party has supported the nomination of Gordon Bajnai to the post of prime minister out of conviction, not because they want ministerial or state secretary posts.
Good to see that SDS had their “compromises” (but not conditions) straight when they decided to side with MSP about returning them to power. No more of this 300 HUF hospital visit fees, let’s go right after communist era informants, whether they’re alive or dead. By bringing these few to justice, everything else will be sorted.
Let’s hope people remember these priorities when elections finally roll round, how our elected representatives rathered not to seeing to establishing a gov’t with a sufficient mandate of the population and feet that could be held to the flames for 4 years.
This little episode clearly delineates why Hungary is in a mess. Communist informants?
I would start with the party they expect to do business with – the MSZP!
A shortage of doctors, subsidy and loan money disappearing, an antiquated local administration, businesses laying off workers in large numbers,Roma issues, weak forint, world financial crisis, diplomatic relations deteriorating with other countries, poor education system. Few jobs for the young after they have completed their education, rural economy in tatters, police and justice system need a complete overhaul.
Never mind – let’s start a “witch-hunt for commie informants.
Second port of call for the Free Democrats would be the cemeteries.
Hungary is in a Gargantuan mess.
