Bajnai cabinet expected to retain some Gyurcsány holdovers

Some ministers of outgoing Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany’s cabinet are expected to keep their post in Gordon Bajnai’s new government, which will feature some new members as well, the online edition of national daily Nepszabadsag said on Monday.

Tibor Draskovics, the current justice and law enforcement minister, will probably take up the post of interior minister. Minister of Culture and Education Istvan Hiller, Defence Minister Imre Szekeres and Environment Minister Imre Szabo are expected to keep their post.

Peter Kiss, the current head of the Prime Minister’s Office, is expected to serve as minister without portfolio in Bajnai’s cabinet.

According to Nepszabadsag, Bajnai’s successor at the helm of the Ministry of Economy will be Tamas Vahl, a 48-year-old IT expert with experience at Siemens and IBM, and current president of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce.

The news site takes it for granted that Finance Minister Janos Veres will be replaced by Peter Oszko, head of the Hungarian office of accounting firm Deloitte.

Csaba Molnar, transport minister in Gyurcsany’s government, will most probably become the head of the Prime Minister’s Office. Peter Balazs, Hungary’s first European commissioner, is expected to succeed Kinga Goncz as foreign minister.
