Budapest police have initiated legal procedures against two members of the paramilitary Hungarian Guard, following a demonstration where they made speeches denying the Holocaust, the police told MTI on Monday.
The two, including Istvan Dosa, a leader of the radical nationalist organisation, spoke before 200 supporters in front of the German Embassy in Budapest on Saturday, and said that “nothing of the Holocaust was true”.
On Sunday, thousands attended a torch-lit march in Budapest, commemorating Hungarian victims of Nazi rule.

For example, the Holodomor (the mass starvation of the Ukrainians in the winter of 1932-33 where 7 million people died) is not as well known because it is not exposed in the media on a daily basis. The genocide in Rwanda where 1 million people perished was nobody’s interest and went almost unnoticed. These other genocides do not make the pain and suffering of the Jews any more or any less than it still is. The survivors of those nations will never forget what was done to their kins either. They just do not get the media exposure and the huge sums of money that comes with it. Unfortunately, many Jewish people ‘ride’ the Shoa ‘business’ to enrich themselves. Now this bothers many people and they want to separate the lies from the facts. Prosecuting someone who honestly wants to look into these matters to find out the truth is totally wrong and outrageous too. What makes the prosecutors any different from Stalin?

I heard many negative comments here. Bacsi likes to attack and degrade other people’s intelligence and personality and Godot likes to generalize. In my opinion, people’s deciding about other people’s intelligence should not be a matter of reading a few sentences from that person. Maybe that individual has a reason to believe what he/she said. Also, generalization is wrong as there are only individuals who are bad or good. Who has the right to tell what is bad or good? Nobody, really. Societies have some very basic unwritten laws that generally separate the good from the bad. What is accepted in one society is not necessarily accepted in another one and vica versa.
Questioning whether something happened or not should be the basic right of every individual in any normal, European society whether someone questions the whole thing or parts of it. There should be no taboos.
Maybe in North Korea or in China currently this is not the norm.

When someone attacks me as an individual person, I sue that individual for defamation and libel. Action-reaction as you say. You cannot force an old lady to go across the street if the lady does not want to go. Currently, people make billions of dollars by writing Holocaust books and telling stories. And they should. Would it be necessary to make this a law today in Hungary? That is the real question and it should be a subject of an open and unbiased debate. Denial of the Holocaust as far as I am concerned should be a personal choice, I for one do not see that in the face of insurmountable evidence that it did not take place, but then again not everybody is me, if you are a person that thinks the opposite, then I do not see the issue. The figures are quoted were from Der Spiegel magazine and figures were published about 5 years ago. I am not sure if it included compensation for all victims, or just Jewish victoms.
From the history books I read, Poland lost 3 million Jews and 3 million non Jews in the Holocaust. Obviously your Aunt should have been compensated – I believe you had to apply and there was a dead-line. I am doing what I hate other people doing – making statements about claim applications that I read “somewhere” without quoting references – my statements however are not cause to hate anyone.

When I write, I like to have more than just printed sources as I think it adds a degree of ‘real life’. What I would like to do is strike the right balance between telling it like it is, that is that Hungary has some real issues and troubles, without falling into the trap of ‘victim blaming’ or becoming captive to some other political agenda. At present, I am consumed with the process of writing a research proposal on a mental health related topic, and with negotiating with the publisher concerned about my Hungary piece. Needless to say, I won’t go ahead with publishing if they impose ‘guidelines’ about what I should write.

Pavaszem: In that case, yes, I agree with you…there are plenty of evil things happening right now that need more attention.I listed Mugabe as an example of yet another monster who is committing crimes against humanity and screwing his own country, while getting a pat on the back for his token gestures of peace.If I were going to make a comment on that, it is about the selective morality of ‘free democratic’ countries that sends the marines in to one country citing humanitarian reasons of rights and justice, but ignores the same crimes in another country…I’m pretty cynical about how morality and the ‘high road’ can be bought so easily.I do think Israel has committed crimes against humanity/war crimes, and I think those responsible should face the music for it.Arguments about the holocaust aside, I do agree with you in the sense that what happened to Jews in WWII does not justify their actions now.If anything, they of all peoples should know better.

Why is is so hard for you to understand that I believe all the history books concerning the Holocaust including the 6 Million Jews and 5 Million Non-Jews perishing? The difference is the Non-Jews are at least not being blamed and their lives are not negated by your ilk.
