Fidesz initiates parliamentary probe into police action against neo-Nazis

The main opposition Fidesz party proposed on Thursday that parliament set up a special committee to investigate why the police had not dispersed a “neo-Nazi demonstration in (Budapest’s) Castle District on April 18.”

The proposal, submitted by Fidesz MP Robert Repassy, said that the committee would also investigate whether the failure to disperse the demonstration was a unique or a general practice, and whether Justice Minister Tibor Draskovics may be responsible for the police’ alleged lenience to disperse events similar to Saturday’s. According to the proposal, an eight-strong committee should be set up, headed by an opposition deputy.

Last Saturday, speakers at a demonstration in front of the German Embassy, organised by the paramilitary Hungarian Guard of the radical nationalist Jobbik party, made speeches denying the Holocaust.

Putting people to labor camps because of their origin or religion or opinion is wrong. Fact: Jobbik is gaining popularity. Fidesz thinks they can prevent the truth seekers from speaking freely. Any such actions will strengthen Jobbik’s position and the actions will have the exact opposite effect that they are intended for. Also the real question is: what would make Fidesz any different from SZDSZ or the former communist MSZP when supporting something like this? At Imre Nagy’s funeral Fidesz chair Orban delivered an excellent speech about ‘thumping the communists into the ground’ and many young people expected to see a real change of the system that is still yet to happen. Fidesz did not have 2/3rd majority between 98-02 so they were unable to do any real change and prosecute the criminals. Now, when they would have a chance (they stand at 70% right now in the polls) it looks like they would leave everything as it is and they would rather ‘thump down’ people who dare to ask some really sensitive questions about a taboo subject instead of prosecuting the real criminals who robbed the country (example: Gabor Demszky, mayor of Budapest spent over 5 BILLION dollars on one unfinished project alone). Hopefully Orban is not getting away from his original stance. I am not in favor of any deniers. I favor honest questions and honest answers. What is denying anyway? Many famous Jewish scholars still argue about many things in the Holocaust. Are they deniers who need to be prosecuted?

What you have said is true..
But what they are NOT arguing about is the FACT that the Holocaust NEVER Happened is it??

“But what they are NOT arguing about is the FACT that the Holocaust NEVER Happened is it??”
Of course not. They are not arguing about that. We can agree on that.
However, currently, there are a very few number of people who say the Holocaust did not happen. Do we really need a law to shut them up? Many people would argue that a law would actually get many other people to think as to why this law is necessary. They would really stop and wonder: do the people who pushed this law through have an interest in hiding something? People do not read laws. They hear the news that a law came about that bans Holocaust denial. People do not go into details. They just would have a sneaking suspicion that something is not right around the Holocaust if people who question it are put to jail. That is how people think. And they would look at some recent events and would hear some conspiracy theories and they would decide to take a look at Jobbik and as they piece the ‘puzzle’ together they would come to the conclusion that Jobbik is actually right about things when they generalize…
Now this can be avoided if anybody can say whatever they want to say and ask whatever they want to ask without the fear of prosecution.
In my opinion, in this current political situation that Hungary is in, an anti Holocaust denial law would actually strengthen Jobbik and the organizations that are far worse than them.

The whole stupid “neo-nazi” paranoia is just yet another attempt by MSZP and SZDSZ crooks to divert attention from real crimes – their own.
There’s a National Socialist Party in the US. So what? Every now and then they march, wave some flags and go home. Any effort to ban them would make them more popular, so why bother?
The most dangerous enemies of Hungary and human rights are sitting in the Parliament.

These lunatic fringe groups always attract the same kind of people.
These people are always easily drawn into the off kilter ravings of these groups, because they match pretty much their own thoughts.
As I’ve said previously the Holocaust is not something which can be changed by debate at this point in time.
The facts and evidence are there for anyone that ‘wants’ to see them??
Those that don’t want to know see.. won’t see.. and that’s fine as long as they don’t try and start ‘preaching’ denial on street corners?
All the main Political Parties in Hungary have agendas that are far from what Hungary needs right now.
Just like Hungarian History, these parties will re-write history to suit whatever the current situation demands…

Stan. If ever a truer statement was made on these
pages I have yet to read it: “THE MOST DANGEROUS ENEMIES OF HUNGARY AND HUMAN RIGHTS ARE SITTING IN THE PARLIAMENT” – right now!
The trouble is, people would rather discuss the
A-Z of world history whilst, step,by easy, step, Hungary is getting washed down the plug-hole, into oblivion!
